Notes from Aqua Nor

This August, we visited Aquanor exhibition to see the opportunities in aquaculture industry. It is the world’s largest aquaculture technology exhibition and dates back to 1979. This year’s exhibition was organized in the pearl of Norway, Trondheim and hosted 28.000 people from 74 countries in 4 days.

Norway blew our minds from the very first moment. This country is literally powered by nature with its beautiful fjords, mountains and forests and gives inspiration to everyone who works for a greener world. We had a wonderful time for two days. Even our Airbnb experience was also unlike any other. The flat had its own small beach with a stunning ocean view. This country sets very high standards in many different ways.

It is easily seen that how deeply Norway embrace innovation. While streets were full of brand new electric cars, Aquanor hosted many innovative companies in aquaculture and offshore fishing. Exhibition halls were way bigger than our expectations and the harbour also hosted many exhibitor vessels. While new technologies in breeding, feeding, biomass control and operation of cages gain momentum, our eyes were on offshore support companies that provide various services to fish farm operators with their workboats.

These companies have big fleets of workboats and their remote monitoring is still of an issue. A fleet analytics solution that is compatible to different engine manufacturers can bring together all these vessels and managers in the office. Real-time data can increase the operational efficiencies, provide better decision making and lower operational costs. Many of these companies still save information like fuel consumption, engine hours and travel distances manually. Fleet Analytics can save valuable time and money with its fleet comparison features and user-friendly interface.

Features for engine health can be extremely valuable for workboat owners. Engine is the main asset in workboats and failures can be prevented through in-depth engine data analyses including fuel rates, boost pressures, exhaust temperatures, etc. Driving style monitoring features can also extend engine life by analysing cold starts, insufficient cool downs and fast accelerations.

Ón the other hand, engine alerts feature makes it possible to plan maintenance activities according to real-time engine data.

Forward looking companies are aware that digitalization rapidly changes maritime and new solutions can make fleet managers stay control of their fleet. We received very positive responses from the field and continue the discussions for our first installations in aquaculture industry.
